ABOUT THE ARTIST
Maskk's story begins in Rome's underground rave scene in the mid-1990s, where Italy's Teknivals and illegal parties pulled him from the dancefloor to the decks. What started as a passion for mixing records quickly became something far bigger.
In 1998, Maskk spearheaded the formation of the audacious sound system Kernel Panik — one of Italy’s most enduring underground sound systems, active for over 25 years across Europe and beyond. In 2006, Kernel Panik launched the South Side Mission, an ambitious multi-year project that brought free festivals and underground parties to Argentina and Brazil, cementing the crew’s reputation as true ambassadors of the free tekno movement on an international scale. Over the years, Maskk’s craft expanded naturally from DJing to live performance and production. His early work — initially recorded on magnetic tape around 2000 — evolved through CD-R to vinyl, each format marking a new stage in his sonic development. In 2014, he founded Kernelpanik Special Edition, a label platform built to document and distribute the sound he had spent years shaping. The next chapter came through a creative partnership with Ixindamix, a shared obsession with slamming beats and twisted synth lines that led to regular b2b bookings and studio sessions. In 2020, the two launched DONT PANIK Records, releasing a series of standout vinyl records that have since become fixtures in underground tekno sets across Europe. For more than a decade, Maskk has performed at some of the most iconic events on the global circuit — Glastonbury Festival (UK), Fusion Festival (DE), Bogotrax (CO) — alongside Street Parades, Million Marijuana Marches and World Pride events. He has shared the console with Ed Rush, Evil Nine, Ragga Twins, Bad Company UK, Crystal Distortion, Ixindamix, 69dB, Chris Liberator and Dave the Drummer. Thirty years in, Maskk remains exactly where he belongs — in the middle of the dance, pushing forward. |
