BONNOT: Quando la Drum and Bass Incontra la Visione di SUM
Bonnot firma come primo artista drum & bass del roster e cosa significa per il collettivo
Tre anni. È il tempo che SUM ha impiegato per arrivare a questo momento. Dalla sua nascita, il collettivo ha costruito una rete europea solida attorno al mondo tekno underground, stringendo relazioni con artisti che interpretano il genere secondo una ricerca autentica. Oggi annunciamo BONNOT come primo artista drum & bass del roster, e questa non è una deviazione dalla nostra identità, piuttosto il riconoscimento naturale di un dialogo che il drum & bass e il tekno condividono da decenni: la velocità ritmica, l’estetica underground, il rifiuto del mainstream.

Perché BONNOT?
La decisione di firmare BONNOT non nasce da una ricerca improvvisa verso il drum & bass. Nasce dall’incontro tra Insane Teknology e BONNOT stesso, qualche mese fa, mentre il primo stava lavorando ad un remix ufficiale di “Incredible” con General Levy. Durante quell’incontro, emerge una sintonia istantanea: entrambi operano nei margini dell’underground, entrambi comprendono che la musica elettronica autentica non si costruisce seguendo categorie rigide.
BONNOT incarna esattamente quello che SUM ricerca nei suoi artisti: una ricerca coerente, collaborazioni significative (General Levy, Assalti Frontali), il riconoscimento della comunità (D&B Awards Italy 2025 come Miglior Produttore). Non arriva in SUM come un trend opportunista verso il DNB, ma come un artista che ha costruito la propria visione nel tempo, attraversando generi per trovare il proprio linguaggio musicale.

e questa curiosità genuina è il tratto distintivo che rende la firma coerente con la missione di SUM.
Il Ponte Tra Due Mondi
Tekno e drum & bass sono generi che vivono in ecosistemi paralleli, con pubblici distinti, label diverse, festival separati. Eppure la loro genealogia è condivisa, dove entrambi nascono da una ricerca di velocità, di suoni densi, di una ricerca estetica che rifiuta la lisciatura commerciale. Firmare BONNOT significa per SUM riconoscere che questa genealogia esiste e ha valore.
Non si tratta di diluire la visione tekno di SUM, né di rincorrere un trend. Si tratta di ampliare il perimetro del collettivo verso artisti che, come BONNOT, incarnano quella ricerca autentica che è il fondamento di SUM, indipendentemente dal BPM o dalla scelta di breakbeat versus cassa dritta.
“Destiny“, il brano con cui BONNOT debutta in SUM (11 aprile Beatport/Spotify, 24 aprile su tutte le piattaforme), è proprio questo: un brano che vive nel dialogo tra mondi. A 174 BPM, con una rolling bassline densa e melodie uplifting, rappresenta il riconoscimento che la velocità ritmica e l’emozione possono convivere, così come il tekno e il drum & bass possono abitare lo stesso spazio creativo.

Questa apertura è simmetrica mentre SUM apre il proprio roster verso una scena con cui ha sempre condiviso radici culturali profonde.
Cosa Cambia in SUM
La firma di BONNOT non cambia la missione fondamentale di SUM, ma quello che cambia è lo spettro di artisti che SUM riconosce come parte di questa missione.
Con BONNOT in roster, SUM diventa una casa per artisti che transitano tra generi, che costruiscono ponti tra mondi paralleli. Con questo allargamento riconosciamo che la ricerca autentica nel drum & bass ha gli stessi fondamenti di quella nel tekno, e meritiamo di supportarla con la stessa dedizione.
BONNOT arriva in SUM con un calendario che racconta già la portata di questa partnership. Singoli quasi mensili in uscita, collaborazioni con Gracie Van Brunt, Lexed (con Mc Dread e Mad Sam), un EP di remix di “Neva Stop” il 15 maggio per Dub Shotta. E nei prossimi mesi, lo sentiamo sui palchi che contano: il 15 maggio a Londra in un DJ set speciale al fianco di General Levy, il 22 maggio a Milano al Nama, il 25 luglio di nuovo a Milano al SelvaViva. Nel mezzo di tutto questo, noi avremo la responsabilità di amplificare questa visione, di supportare un artista che ha scelto di portare il proprio percorso trasversale all’interno della rete SUM, e di testimoniare che quando la ricerca autentica incontra il supporto concreto, nasce qualcosa di valore

BONNOT: When DNB Meets SUM’s Vision
The signing of SUM’s first drum & bass artist and what it means for the collective
Three years. That’s how long it took SUM to reach this moment. Since its inception, the collective has built a solid European network around underground techno, establishing relationships with artists who interpret the genre through authentic research, without compromise. Today we announce BONNOT as the first drum & bass artist in our roster, and this is not a deviation from our identity. It’s rather the natural recognition of a dialogue that drum & bass and techno have shared for decades: rhythmic speed, underground aesthetics, rejection of the mainstream.

Why BONNOT?
The decision to sign BONNOT doesn’t stem from a sudden search toward drum & bass. It comes from the encounter between Insane Teknology and BONNOT himself, a few months ago, while he was producing an official remix of “Incredible” with General Levy. During that meeting, a resonance emerges: both operate in the margins of the underground, both understand that authentic electronic music isn’t built by following rigid categories.
BONNOT embodies exactly what SUM searches for in its artists: coherent research, meaningful collaborations (General Levy, Assalti Frontali), community recognition (D&B Awards Italy 2025 as Best Producer). He doesn’t arrive at SUM as an opportunistic trend toward DNB, but as an artist who has built his vision over time, crossing genres to find his own sonic language.

The Bridge Between Two Worlds
Techno and drum & bass are genres that live in parallel ecosystems, with distinct audiences, different labels, separate festivals. Yet their genealogy is shared: both are born from a search for speed, dense sonic spaces, an aesthetic research that refuses commercial smoothing. Signing BONNOT means SUM recognizes that this genealogy exists and has value.
This isn’t about diluting SUM’s techno vision, nor chasing a trend. It’s about expanding the collective’s scope toward artists who, like BONNOT, embody that authentic research which is the foundation of SUM, regardless of BPM or the choice between breakbeats and four-on-the-floor.
“Destiny“, the track with which BONNOT debuts in SUM (April 11 Beatport/Spotify, April 24 all platforms), is exactly this: a track that lives in dialogue between worlds. At 174 BPM, with a dense rolling bassline and uplifting melodies, it represents the recognition that rhythmic speed and emotion can coexist, just as techno and drum & bass can inhabit the same creative space.
According to BONNOT himself, drum & bass today
“has opened up a lot to techno influences and in today’s productions I notice a beautiful balance between the world of broken drums and straight drums”.
This openness is symmetrical: SUM opens its roster toward a scene with which it has always shared deep cultural roots.
What Changes in SUM
BONNOT’s signing doesn’t change SUM’s fundamental mission: discover artists building authentic research, manage their international logistics (flights, accommodation, contracts, riders), amplify their voices through the European network. What changes is the spectrum of artists SUM recognizes as part of this mission.
With BONNOT in the roster, SUM becomes a home for artists who transit between genres, who build sonic bridges between parallel worlds. This expansion is not dilution, it’s clarity: we recognize that authentic research in drum & bass has the same foundations as that in techno, and we deserve to support it with the same dedication.
BONNOT arrives at SUM with a calendar that already tells the scale of this partnership. Almost monthly singles coming, collaborations with Gracie Van Brunt, Lexed (with Mc Dread and Mad Sam), a remix EP of “Neva Stop” on May 15 for Dub Shotta. And in the coming months, you’ll hear him on the stages that matter: May 15 in London in a special DJ set alongside General Levy, May 22 in Milan at Nama, July 25 back in Milan at SelvaViva. In the midst of all this, the collective will have the responsibility to amplify this vision, to support an artist who has chosen to bring his multigenre journey within SUM’s network, and to testify that when authentic research meets concrete support, something valuable emerges.
